Night blessing sheep rest, in English and Portuguese

A Night Blessing for the Sheep Who Accidentally Turned Rest Into a Project

Tonight, know that the LORD is God—not your inbox, not your unfinished list, not the inner critic with a clipboard. He made you; you are his; you are a sheep of his pasture (Psalm 100:3). The Good Shepherd knows you—not your productivity, not your best performance, just you—and you are allowed to be known by him (John 10:14).

Remember last Sunday’s sermon: The Fence and the Field. The fence was meant to serve the field, not replace it; rest is a gift, not a performance review. Sabbath was made for you, not you for Sabbath, and the Son of Man is Lord even of your calendar (Mark 2:23–28). So may you stop searching for a gate labeled “Rest—Approved for the Truly Efficient” and simply lie down in the pasture.

May your night be loving, gentle, and cared for: shoulders down, jaw loose, worries handed over, phone just out of reach. If you have been trying to earn rest by being world-class tired, may you laugh kindly at yourself, repent only of fence-climbing, and sleep like a sheep who finally believes the Shepherd knows her name.

Good Shepherd, keep them through the night; let the field be field, the fence be fence, and the rest be gift. Amen.
