A Night Blessing from the Birds of the Eastern Cape
(A soft breeze rustles the leaves of the yellowwood and
spekboom. The calls of the hadeda and the nightjar settle into a gentle
rhythm.)
Beloved of the Wild Coast, rest now.
As the sun sinks into the sea, painting the sky in hues of
ochre and deep violet, listen. The birds of the Eastern Cape—the hadeda with
its raucous, joyful cry, the somber call of the Cape Turtle Dove, and the
secret whisper of the fiery-necked nightjar—are not just settling for the
night. They are weaving a benediction over you.
Their chorus is a living reminder of a promise: "I
will satiate the soul of the priests with abundance, and my people shall be
satisfied with my goodness, declares the Lord." (Jeremiah 31:14).
Let that be your truth tonight. The day’s labors, the
worries you've carried, the people you've tried to please—lay them down. For
our God is a God of abundance, not of scarcity. He is not a miser with His
love, but a generous Father whose pantry is overflowing with grace, peace, and
a joy that doesn't depend on your circumstances. Let the evening air fill your
lungs with that goodness and feel your soul being deeply satiated.
And listen to the promise whispered on the wing of the
swift: "And my God will supply every need of yours according to
his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:19).
It does not say He will supply every want or
every whim, but every need. As the birds find their
shelter in the branches, so you find your shelter in Him. He knows the secret
places of your heart that ache for restoration. He knows the strength you need
for tomorrow, and He is already there, providing it. So, cease your anxious
striving. The Provider of the universe has you in His sight.
And that brings us to the whisper of the still, small voice,
echoing the sermon we heard last Sunday: “The Temple of God: The
Preciousness of Every Life.” Remember the words from 1 Corinthians
3:9-17. You are not a stone in a cold, distant building. You are a living stone
in God’s temple. The Spirit of the living God dwells within you. You are a
sacred place.
Do you see the irony, the good humor of it all? The birds of
the Eastern Cape build their nests in the trees, in the eaves, in the most
ordinary places. They are unassuming, busy, and full of song. And God, in His
joyful wisdom, has chosen you to be His temple. Not a grand, marble edifice,
but a living, breathing, sometimes messy, always precious dwelling place for
His Spirit. You are not just a part of the building; the building is part
of you. Your laughter, your tears, your conversations, your very
breath—these are the sacred rites in His temple.
So, as the moon climbs over the Amatola Mountains, rest in
this gentle truth:
You are satisfied by His goodness.
You are provided for by His riches.
You are indwelt by His Spirit.
Therefore, dear one, sleep with a light heart. Rise
tomorrow, not with a burden, but with a song. Rise as a living stone,
held secure in the walls of God’s grace.
Good night, and good humor, from the birds of the Eastern
Cape. The night is safe, for the Temple is guarded by its Builder.
Amen.
Uma Bênção Noturna dos
Pássaros do Cabo Oriental
Costa Selvagem, descanse agora.
Enquanto o
Senhor." (Jeremias 31:14).
Deixe que
essa seja a sua verdade esta noite. As fadigas do dia, as preocupações que você
carregou, as pessoas que você tentou agradar — coloque tudo no chão. Pois o
E escute a
O Espírito do Deus
Você é suprido(a) pelas Suas riquezas.
Você é habitado(a) pelo Seu Espírito.
Portanto,
querido(a), durma com o coração leve. Ao levantar amanhã, não com um
fardo, mas com um canto. Levante-se como uma pedra viva, firme e
segura nos muros da graça de Deus.
Boa noite,
e bom humor, dos pássaros do Cabo Oriental. A noite é segura, pois o Templo é
guardado pelo seu Construtor.
Amém.
