A Night Blessing for the Unlikely
May the God who called a stuttering shepherd to topple
empires, and who appointed a weeping prophet to uproot nations, look upon you—yes, you with
your messy prayers and your half-finished to-do lists—and say, "Before I
formed you in the womb, I knew you. And I still didn't change My mind."
So rest now, O reluctant hero.
For the One Who Preaches Peace (Even to the Far Off):
May the Christ who is our Peace, who came and preached good news to those near
and those painfully far—may He draw a circle of grace so wide around your bed
tonight that even your most distant, wandering thoughts are gathered safely
home. May the walls of your heart, which you have so carefully fortified with
worry, crumble at the whisper of His Shalom.
For the One Who Sings in the Night:
May the King of Israel, who is in your midst, silence His own stern judgment
just to hear you breathe. May He quiet you with His love, not because you
deserve it, but because He delights in proving His logic is higher than yours.
And while He is at it, may He gently mock the giants that loom in your
imagination—the ones that kept you from saying "yes" today—with a
single, sarcastic wink: "They are but grasshoppers, and you are
mine."
For the One He Has Chosen (Against All Better Judgment):
The Lord has taken away the punishment you were so certain was coming. He has
turned back your enemy—not because you fought well, but because He fights
better. So tonight, do not rehearse your failures. Do not replay your
stammering responses. The same voice that told Jeremiah, "I am
with you to deliver you," now says to you, "I have
put My words in your mouth. I have set you over nations. Now stop acting
surprised."
The Final Benediction:
Now, lay your head down. You are not the candidate they would have chosen. You
are not the prophet you thought you should be. And yet, the Lord is in your
midst. He will not be embarrassed by you. He will not rescind His call.
So sleep, you unlikely, magnificent mess. For tomorrow, He
will again ask you to speak. But tonight, He just asks you to rest in the
audacity of His choice.
Amen. And good night. Don't let the bedbugs of self-doubt
bite.
surpreso."
A Bênção
Final:
