—A blessing from the streets, with a wink and a prayer.
May the God who sees you—really sees you, not just your Sunday best—bless you tonight.
For the Lord declares: "Whoever touches you,
touches the apple of my eye." (Zechariah 2:8)
Yes, you. The one with the leaky roof. The one
who argued with your neighbour. The one who sang off-key but meant every word.
The apple of God's eye—not because you're perfect, but because God has a soft
spot for the strange, wonderful fruit of His making.
God has chosen the foolish things to shame the wise. (1
Corinthians 1:28)
So bless the foolish things:
- The
old man who talks to his chickens like counsellors.
- The
auntie who prays over every pot of stew.
- The
young one who dropped out but can fix any car with wire and stubborn hope.
You think you're small? KuGompo just a dot? Qonce a whisper?
God says: "I am coming to dwell in your
midst." Not in the palace. Here. Where dust is red, laughter
loud, tears real.
May you never separate the Word from the Table.
Word without Table is just a lecture—loud and hungry for
applause.
Table without Word is just a meal—filling the belly, not the soul.
But when they meet? That is unity.
When the deacon serves porridge and says, "This
is the body."
When the elder reads scripture and adds, "Now let's eat—love is
hungry work."
When grumbling stops—not because problems are gone, but because we remember
whose table it is, and we're all beggars invited to feast.
Tonight, be gentle with yourself.
- If
you shouted, forgive yourself—try again tomorrow.
- If
you didn't pray "right," remember: God prefers your honest sigh
to polished words.
- If
you feel forgotten: the apple of the eye is never out of sight.
And be care-filled:
- For
the widow next door—bring tea and a story.
- For
the young man with his hood up—see not a threat, but a child with a wound.
- For
the busy church—remind them: the table is not for the worthy, but for
the hungry.
If you're the "foolish thing" God
chose—congratulations. Good company.
Moses stuttered. Peter sank. Paul was a terrorist. And you?
The one through whom God wants to bless this neighborhood. Not because you're
ready. Because you're here.
And God is here.
So go, KuGompo, go Qonce—
with the Word on your tongue,
the Table in your hands.
Love that is gentle.
Care that is fierce.
Humor that knows:
The world thinks it has it figured out.
But God is building a new city,
bricks of broken people,
mortar of grace,
windows wide open—
everyone welcome.
Amen.
Good night.
See you at the table.
Então abençoe as coisas loucas:
janelas escancaradas —
todos bem-vindos.
Amém.
Boa noite.
Nos vemos na mesa.
